How Vile Can Some People Be: The World’s Most Evil and Notorious Serial Killers In History

Andrei Chikatilo

Andrei Romanovich Chikatilo, aka The Butcher of Rostov, once said that he felt some psychological comfort whenever he used his knife because he knew he was a natural failure and would be eliminated someday. The assassin was guilty of molesting, murdering, and torturing 53 women and children throughout Russia from 1978 to 1990.

After being apprehended in 1992, he was sentenced to death by firing squad in 1994. His story is notable not just for the sheer number of his murders but also for efforts by Soviet authorities to provide public warnings throughout their investigation. The government’s ruling ideology claimed that mass killing was unthinkable in a communist state.
